Having decided to complete my MBA with a dissertation on Business and the Metaverse I now need to chalk up some in-world time and experience what it’s all about.
I’ve studied my Porter’s Value Chain, revised my Media Richness Theory and brushed up on Task Closure Theory – not to mention an array of business and economic orientated articles about what businesses can and should be doing on the Metaverse.
However, the Metaverse is still confusing to define. If it’s the 3D Internet then is it useful for everything the Internet can do? I want to do my banking on a secure Internet connection not in a virtual world with a virtual mugger looking over my virtual shoulder. Maybe the advantage is on those inherently social tasks such as teaching, meetings and service centres. Can you run a Service Centre based solely in Second Life – maybe with some enabling technology to extend the service to users that don’t have the SL software?
With a voice enabled Second Life maybe I can find somewhere in-world where these things are discussed……………..?
